๐ Dunfanaghy Youths U12 โ Europa Cup Champions! ๐
What a day and season for our U12s! ๐๐
Dunfanaghy Youths defeated neighbours Glenree 2โ1 in a thrilling Europa Cup Final to complete a historic treble, adding the Europa Cup to their Division 1 League Cup and Premier B League titles. An incredible achievement for this special group of players! ๐
Played in glorious sunshine at Callum Friel Park, the game got off to a fast start. Glenree settled quickest and enjoyed some early possession, but strong defending from Odhran Sweeney, Clara Ward Duffy, and Oliver McGinty kept them out.
As the half went on, Dunfanaghy began to take control in midfield through Anthony Wilkinson, Fiadh McGinley, and Liam McFadden. A lovely move down the right saw Odhran, Liam, and JP Duffy combine before JP whipped in a brilliant cross for Cian Langan, whose header was somehow tipped over by Glenree keeper James Thompson.
Moments later, another great cross from JP found Cian again, firing home an acrobatic finish into the top corner to make it 1โ0 at half time.
Dunfanaghy came out flying after the break. Cian went close with a flick into the side netting before turning provider, beating the Glenree defence and setting up Anthony Wilkinson, who coolly slotted into the bottom corner to make it 2โ0.
Glenree hit back through Charlie Rogers, setting up a tense finish. They pushed hard for an equaliser, but the Dunfanaghy defence held firm with some excellent defending from Clara, Fiadh, Riley Sweeney, Caolan Sweeney, Hugh McNulty, and a brilliant goal-line clearance by Odhran Sweeney. In goal, Dylan Robinson was calm and assured throughout.
At the other end, Matthew McFadden caused all sorts of problems for Glenree on the counterattack. Matthew went close a few times, the closest being a shot into the bottom corner that was brilliantly saved by James Thompson.
When referee Seimi Ferry, who officiated superbly, blew for full time, the celebrations began!
