Tuesday 26th August

It was a lovely evening for football at Calum Friel Park as Dunfanaghy Youths welcomed near neighbours Milford FC. With both sides usually wearing blue, Dunfanaghy took to the pitch in an unfamiliar red strip – and it certainly brought them luck as they produced a fine team display to run out 5–0 winners.

Captain Clara Ward Duffy led from the front and was in terrific form, opening the scoring in the 8th minute before adding her second in the 27th. In between, Sophie Barber grabbed her first goal of the season with a neat finish in the 11th minute. Sophie was unfortunate to go off injured just before half time after taking a heavy knock, but she had already made a big contribution to her team’s strong start.

The second half saw more good football from Dunfanaghy, with Caoimhe Langan catching the eye. Having impressed on the wing for much of the game, she moved into a forward role and was rewarded with a well-taken goal in the 47th minute. Fiadh McGinley then added a fifth in the 59th minute to cap off the scoring.

The home side created plenty more chances, but were denied on several occasions by the excellent Milford goalkeeper, who produced some fine saves to keep the scoreline down. Milford battled hard right to the final whistle and deserve credit for their effort and determination.

Overall, it was another strong all-round team performance from Dunfanaghy Youths, with every player playing their part in an enjoyable evening of football.
