It’s been a fantastic week for our U12 teams at Dunfanaghy Youths, with success in both Division 1 and Division 2 League Cup competitions.

Division 2: Through to the Final!

On Thursday evening, our U12 Division 2 side booked their place in the League Cup final after a dramatic penalty shootout win over a strong Letterkenny Athletic side. The game finished 3-3 in normal time before Dunfanaghy edged it 12-11 on penalties in what was one of the most thrilling matches yet at Callum Friel Park.

Letterkenny took the lead early on, but Dinnie Sheridan equalised with a superb free kick after Caoimhe Langan was fouled. Letterkenny regained the lead before the break to go in 2-1 up. They then extended their lead to 3-1 from the penalty spot midway through the second half.

Dunfanaghy responded with real determination. Caoimhe latched onto a through ball and fired into the top corner to make it 3-2. Deep into injury time, Dinnie stepped up again with a stunning free kick from the left edge of the box, curling it into the top right corner to send the game to penalties.

In the shootout, Dinnie Sheridan, Michael McHugh, Caoimhe Langan, Micheál Sweeney, and Kevin McLaughlin all converted their first attempts — and again in a second round of penalties. On the third round, Dinnie and Michael once again found the net to spark celebrations as Dunfanaghy advanced to the final 12-11 on penalties.

Huge congratulations to Ciaran Gallagher and his team. The final will be played away to Glenea on Saturday, 26th April at 3:30pm. Please come out and support the team!

Division 1: League Cup Champions!

Our U12 Division 1 team continued their strong start to the season by retaining the League Cup with a 1-0 win over neighbours Glenea.

Dunfanaghy dominated from the start, pinning Glenea back and creating a host of chances. Two goals were disallowed for offside and the Glenea keeper made several excellent saves. The breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when a goal-bound strike from Cian Langan was handled in the box. Cian stepped up to take the penalty and coolly slotted it into the bottom corner.

Despite further chances to extend the lead, the single goal was enough. Dunfanaghy defended resolutely to see out the game and lift the cup once again.

Joint captains Cian Langan and Matthew McFadden proudly accepted the trophy on behalf of their jubilant teammates.

Squad:
Dylan Robinson, Odhran Sweeney, Clara Ward Duffy, Anthony Wilkinson, Liam McFadden, Fiadh McGinley, Oliver McGinty, Matthew McFadden, Cian Langan, Hugh McNulty, Riley Sweeney, Caolan Sweeney, and JP Duffy.

Well done to all players and coaches on a brilliant achievement!
