Despite putting on a very good display, the Youths had to settle for a draw in illistrin on Sunday.
Liam McFadden and Cian Langan were a constant threat throughout. A good kick out from Rory Boyce went straight to Cian's feet, who in turn put through a brilliant pass that split the illistrin defence. Liam ran on and expertly finished into the bottom corner in the 25th minute.
Dunfanaghy was now in the ascendancy, and the same two combined a minute later. This time, Liam was the subject of a very robust tackle, but the referee waved away what looked a clear penalty. Cian almost scored direct from a corner only to be denied by fine goalkeeping. A free kick by Cian was headed just past the post by Oisin Sweeney on the stroke of half time. Dunfanaghy had to settle for just the 1 goal lead at half time.
The second half was more evenly contested. A cross into the Youths penalty area appeared to be going wide until an unfortunate deflection diverted it into the net to level the match in the 38th minute. 1-1 is how it finished.
The Youths had strong performances from the aforementioned players, with Caolan Sweeney, the player of the match.
The panel on Sunday was Rory Boyce, Seve Roarty, Oisin Sweeney (captain), Odhran Sweeney, Caolan Sweeney, Oisin Nelis, Anthony Wilkinson, Liam McFadden, Cian Langan, Alfie Roarty, and Dylan Robinson.
Our next match is at HOME to Letterkenny Crusaders this Thursday, 30th May, at 7pm.
