Capping a great week for the Dunfanaghy Youths U12s, it was the boys this time that defeated an excellent Gweedore Celtic team 3-0 on Thursday evening in ideal conditions in Callum Friel Park.
Dunfanaghy played with huge intensity from the start. Cian Langan ran through and opened the scoring after 2 minutes. Matthew McFadden added to this after 10 minutes with a shot from the edge of the box that took a slight deflection. After 15 minutes, Cian took the ball in midfield and dribbled through the Gweedore defence and was taken down in the box. The referee, Kevin O'Donnell, had no hesitation and pointed to the spot. Cian dispatched the penalty with aplomb into the bottom corner.
Dunfanaghy continued to take the game to Gweedore Celtic. Special mention to Gweedore Celtic, who refused to drop their heads. They defended and competed very well to the end.
Dunfanaghy Youths are now through to the semi-finals next weekend.
A brilliant all-around team performance from Dunfanaghy Youths with Oisin Nelis, the player of the match.
